KIDWARE® is simple for kids to use!
 |
 |
At the begining of the school year, focus on meaningul alphabet letter recognition. Each child chooses an icon as his or her own special picture (or the teacher can choose it for the child).
When Carmen uses the computer with KIDWARE, she simply moves the mouse
to her special picture (dogwood flower) and presses a mouse button. |
Carmen's name is pronounced aloud and then each letter of her name is
identified. If Carmen's native language is Spanish, the letters in her name
will be voiced in Spanish. Using the Tool Kit for KIDS, she can even record
her own name.

|
 |
| A screen appears with three software programs available.
The teacher has read the story Mouse Paint. Three mice mix colors to make secondary colors, so Carmen wants to mix colors and draw. She chooses Electronic Easel by
moving the mouse to the two paint cans.
Electronic Easel automatically loads and is ready for Carmen to use!
Voice prompts give her feedback and directions as she makes choices about
colors to mix. She simulates mixing primary paints to create more colors.
After mixing colors, Carmen creates a picture. She presses on the keyboard
icon to get to KIDWARE Writer. She dictates a story about her picture, then
prints it for the classroom Art Gallery, and one to take home too!

Press on the paint can to mix colors.
Press on the brush to draw a picture".
|
These are some of the early reading and writing objectives Carmen is achieving as she enjoys this computer learning activity:
She...
- follows multi-step directions.
- recognizes and names colors.
- represents thinking by creating a picture.
- draws pictures based on a story.
- recognizes that her words can be represented in print.
- demonstrates that she understands print has meaning.
