| Education , employment and daily life
have undergone enormous change in the past two decades. Cable television, MTV,
personal computers, the Internet, e-mail, cell phones, CD's, money machines and fax
machines have already become a part of the fabric of all of our lives. What will the next two decades bring? By the 21st century 60% of all jobs in the U.S. will require skills in computer and network use. But these jobs will require much more than just computer skills. As technology makes the world increasingly collaborative and global, employers will also be seeking skills in analytical thinking, researching, oral and written communication, interpersonal relationships and ethical practice. |
Our educational goals should result in
citizens who can participate successfully in the global community of the information age.
Children will need different knowledge, skills and experiences. Educators have the
responsibility to provide children with these tools. Technology can help develop skills in higher order thinking and problem solving as well as skill in human relations and teamwork. It can bring exposure to diverse cultures and languages and help build respect for different people around the world. When thoughtfully implemented in an integrated, hands-on, inquiry-based curriculum, technology can help expand the minds and futures of our children. |
