Did You Know...?

KIDWARE supports assistive devices that can enhance communication and access for children with disabilities.

KIDWARE supports assistive devices like the Easy Ball

The Easy Ball

The Easy Ball from Microsoft is an oversized mouse device that enhances access for children having difficulties using the standard mouse.  Its comfortable and easy to use design provides support for the child's hand and there is only one button to press.   Kids love it!

KIDWARE- educational software, comprehensive, inclusive, multi-level, flexible

Mouse

Sometimes the movement of the mouse/cursor seems erratic, too sensitive to the touch.   You can adjust the movement of the cursor by repeatedly pressing the minus(-) key or the plus(+) key on the keyboard.  To further facilitate the use of the mouse, put the mousepad on the slanted surface of a thick 3-ringed binder.  This inclined plane gives a tangible sense of up and down when you move the mouse.

As early childhood educators we recognize the importance early intervention plays in providing young children with opportunities to learn.  In particular, early intervention has very important implications for the later education and life of a child with disabilities. According to the Office of Special Education Programs' (OSEP) Report to Congress (2000) there are about 6 million children with disabilities, and of these students about 45 percent are Learning Disabled. Students with learning disabilities accounted for 51.1% of students receiving services.  Educating children with disabilities with their non-disabled peers dramatically affects the longer term social and economic outcomes for the children with disabilities.
